Success Story

Burgess Hill, UK – Sept 12th, 2002 . OPC2net with NOTIFIER Fire Panel plug-in was tested this week on a full-blown 32 panels ID²net setup at the NOTIFIER laboratories in Burgess Hill, UK. OPC2net has passed all tests performed in this configuration. OPC2net supports fully the newly released ID²net peer-to-peer network protocol for ID3000 fire panels. Currently ID²net can connect up to 32 panels each controlling up to 1,584 devices. The maximum installation is therefore 32 x 1,584 = 50,688 devices. OPC2net is capable of handling such a full-blown ID²net installation after a lot of enhancement, and optimization work performed by DomesticSoft engineers the last weeks.

"The OPC2net software was given a hard time in those tests," says Rick Love NOTIFIER Technical Manger. "Among the tests was an unrealistic test of more than 300 smoke detectors giving alarm signals at the same time in addition to 60 sensors reporting failure notifications. OPC2net succeeded gracefully reporting all those events to an OPC-client (a test Building Management System). Other tests like importing the whole ID²net configuration into the OPC2net database where passed without problems."

"We are very satisfied with the test results," says Throstur Jonsson, DomesticSoft President. "We have put a lot of effort into the NOTIFIER Fire Panel plug-in. Supporting ID²net was the hardest part to implement. The size of ID²net configurations can be huge particularly in building complexes with many ID3000 panels in an ID²net network. The tests performed at Burgess Hill this week not only prove that OPC2net can be used with large Fire System configurations, but also with other types of large Building Control Systems, as the central core of OPC2net is common for all hardware types."
