Today Building Networks is a very hot topic, both at commercial locations and also in homes (house network). Those networks not only connect conventional computers but also smart devices like lighting, security system, fire systems, television, refrigerators, heating etc. and the Internet. This new generation of devices normally called smart devices are today penetrating in industrial and commercial sectors as a cost effective replacement of industrial computers or areas where control and monitoring has not been economical before or needed.

The main purpose of the OPC2net software is to create an easy to use and open, interface between control hardware and application software plus the Internet. This software is intended to enable Internet ready commercial control networks. OPC2Net hides the complexity of the underlying hardware (Fire Systems, Intrusion Systems, Access Control Systems, AC-systems, PowerBus™, X10, LonWorks, Konnex etc.) making the interface to the building control hardware more "natural" for system developers and system integrators.

Currently those hardware standards are supported by DomesticSoft: NOTIFIER® Fire Panels and PowerBus®.  Other hardware protocols are supported by 3d parties.
