OPC2net has been selected by deCODE genetics to interface its head quarters fire system to a Honeywell based Building Management System (BMS). The new head quarters building of deCODE genetics located in Reykjavik Iceland, is one of the most modern buildings in Europe. The BMS systems at deCODE controls and monitors all items of the building system for example air conditioning, access control system, lighting control and now the NOTIFIER based fire system.

The fire system at deCODE head quarters is NOTIFIER ID3000 based. OPC2net interfaces over 6000 OPC variables from the fire system to the BMS. The BMS system is a highly graphical system, displaying all smoke detectors, manual call points etc., as graphical objects in a two dimensional model of the building. All events from the fire system are logged in the BMS database, where from operators can easily retrieve the event history.

"It was quite nice to see how easy it was installing the OPC2net connectivity software for the fire system and then configure the BMS to use it," says Ari Ingvarsson building manager at deCODE. "Compared to the configuration work needed for the other system parts, this was nothing. The OPC2net system has run without any problems for almost two years now."

"For us it is vital to connect the fire system to our BMS," Ari continues. "We must minimize the time from fire indication to human reaction as much as possible. The graphical display of the BMS largely decreases this time.   We are aware that seconds matter if fire brakes out. Our laboratories are of almost infinite value for our business, Ari continues. We must protect those as the rest of our business as possible from catastrophes like fire. OPC2net is a necessary item of gaining that goal."

"We also have a very complete and informative overview of the fire system condition by interfacing it to our BMS," Ari states.
